The contrast of the beautiful women, their colorful clothes and their misery seems to be the topic, but there might be a far more importat reason why I drew this series. After I had made them I found out that they were done in the time when my identical twin died. There was an intuitive connection to the feelings of these women. They, unlike me, live in a culture where it is allowed to act out ones feelings in public.
